In our latest collaboration, Lenko was asked by one of Australia’s favourite bands, Bluejuice, to create their outfits for their Splendour in the Grass show. As you may already know, Splendour has become the festival tickets of the year, attracting great bands and massive attendance. The lovely boys from Bluejuice have had an amazing year, with a great response to their super catchy Head of the Hawk album, as well as coming 5th in the Triple J hottest 100. It was an exciting propostion! We had to do it.
This was our challenge, to create visually exciting suits that reflected the bands crazy personalities and would withstand the energetic performance. The answer was clear- Yetis- Glow in the dark Yetis!
After a few initial experiements, we found regular faux fur wasnt UV effective, we would have to add our own UV fibres to the fabric to get that mega glowing look, as well as coloured threads for that shaggy handmade feel and colour the band wanted. This was going to take a while. My amazing assistants, Lia and Georgia and I worked away like little elves for a month on these suits, sewing into the wee hours. It seemed the suits would never be done! Then an angel from heaven arrived in the form of Amy from the UK. Together with genius pattern queen Tehani, we powered through getting all the suits done in time. Phew! thanks to my amazing team, love you guys.
In the end, the show was a great success, the boys looked and sounded fantastic. Thanks so much to Bluejuice for giving us the opportunity to work with them.
